Glock History

Glock wasn’t always a front runner in the firearms industry, and was rather initially known for producing other various consumer goods. The company’s history began in Deutsch Wagram, Austria and was founded by an Austrian engineer in 1963. Gaston Glock and his small handful of employees produced goods made out of wood, polymers, and metal like doorknobs, curtain rods, etc.

It wasn’t until the 1970’s that Glock entered the defense industry by producing military weapons like combat/field knives, hand grenades, entrenching tools and other miscellaneous military equipment. Glock began their production of firearms in the 80’s, revolutionizing the pistol market with the birth of the first semi-automatic Glock pistol in 1982 and followed shortly after by the release of their first fully automatic pistol in 1987.

Why Glock is a Favorite Brand in the Industry

Since its foundation in the 1980’s, Glock has long been known as one of the most popular firearms on the market for both civilians and law enforcement. After its introduction to the U.S. in 1986, Glock captured the attention of both the U.S. law enforcement and commercial markets. Today, the Glock remains the top preferred pistol for 65% of law enforcement agencies and is also the standard service handgun of the U.S. Military.

Because of its design and performance, Glock has established a strong and highly respected name in the firearms industry and has been able to compete among its large and well-established competitors like FN Herstal, Beretta, Heckler & Koch, SIG Sauer, etc. There are many characteristics that support its popularity, some of those being:

Reliability

Fire tens of thousands of shots, and a Glock will have minimal jams or malfunctions. The firearm has also set records for withstanding incredibly harsh conditions and has a multiple safety mechanism system.

Lightweight frame

The Glock was the first firearm built with a polymer frame rather than steel, causing the firearm to be more lightweight and durable.

Potential for customization

With a Glock, you’ll be able to get exactly what you’re looking for in a handgun because of its countless customization options. Whether you’re looking to add accessories like a red dot sight, swap your barrel or trigger, or specialize it with a cerakote finish, Glock has endless opportunities for customization.

Variety

The company has created generations worth of models that are suitable for any customer. From full-size models for combat, duty, and home defense, compact models for general-purpose use, and subcompact models for concealed carrying, there’s a large variety for you to choose from.

Ease of use

Glock has a simple design with ease of use features and built in safety mechanisms to reduce the risk of accidents and give the shooter peace of mind.

The Power of a Full Auto Glock

With an external fire selector at the rear end of the slide you can switch your Glock from semi-automatic to full-automatic firing mode. The difference between the two is that a semi-automatic firearm will only fire once per trigger pull, while a full-automatic means the gun will continue firing while the trigger is held. A full-automatic gun is overall a quicker process when firing and has the ability to fire significantly more rounds per minute.
