Walking into a shooting range for the first time can feel intimidating. Are you new to shooting? Maybe you’ve just bought your first firearm, signed up for a training class, or are simply curious about learning how to shoot safely. Whatever your reason, you’re in the right place—and we’re here to help you feel comfortable, confident, and well-prepared.
At Ozark Sportsman, we believe the range should be a place where everyone—regardless of experience—can learn, grow, and enjoy shooting in a safe and supportive environment.
What to Bring on Your First Visit
Before your first range day, be sure to bring:

Your unloaded firearm in a case or bag
-
Appropriate ammunition
-
Eye and ear protection (available for rent or purchase)
-
A respectful and teachable attitude
Not sure what to bring? Stop by our counter—we’ll get you set up.
Safety First, Always
Every shooter must follow the four basic rules of firearm safety:
- Treat every firearm as if it’s loaded
- Never point your firearm at anything you’re not willing to destroy
- Keep your finger off the trigger until you’re ready to shoot
- Be sure of your target and what’s beyond it
You’ll also receive a safety briefing before your session, and range safety officers will be available if you have questions or need help.
What to Expect Once You’re on the Range
-
You’ll check in and be assigned a lane
-
You’ll set up your gear and shoot at your own pace
-
Targets may be stationary or moveable depending on your lane
-
Staff are always nearby to offer assistance
Our range is designed to be beginner-friendly, with clear protocols and a respectful environment for all skill levels.
Feeling Nervous? That’s Normal
First-time nerves are common—and healthy. You’re handling something powerful and learning something new. Most new shooters leave the range feeling empowered, educated, and excited to continue learning.
If you’d like extra guidance, we offer classes specifically designed for beginners.
